What are solar inverters?
The solar inverter is one of the most important parts of the solar panel system. It is the component that converts the direct current (DC) into the alternating current (AC) electricity that is used to power your home or building. In the Australian climate, if you want your solar system to last, it is very important that a high quality inverter is used.
If your inverter is bad or isn’t working properly, this will directly affect the amount of power and energy that your solar panel system produces.
Solar inverters can be affected by problems such as:
- Tripping circuit breaker: this can indicate an issue with your grid
- A voltage issue: the voltage could be too high or too low
- Storm damage: wind, hail, lightning or rain can affect the inverter
Check the inverter’s lights
It is important that you check the inverter if you suspect an issue. The best thing to do to see if there’s a problem with your inverter, is to check the lights on the box during daylight (when the system is meant to be running). Are the lights green, yellow or red? Are they flashing, still or off?
If the lights are green, it means that your solar system is working properly. If the lights are yellow or red and flashing, this could be an indication that there is an issue with the inverter. In this case, you should check for an error code on the display or check the web portal of the inverter’s user interface to find out the cause of the error. In all cases where there is an error, call a solar repairer as soon as possible.
Review your solar system’s data
You can access the data through the inverter digital screen or an online portal that is connected to your inverter. We recommend accessing the data online as the information is usually more straightforward and easier to understand.
The solar system data provides useful information about your system’s performance (like the power & energy output). You can use this data to compare your system’s output with its expected output.
